Practical technology
for real-world systems

Greener Systems designs and builds connected monitoring, automation and software tools for energy, environmental and resilience applications.

The work combines software, sensors, external data and practical systems experience—much of it developed through more than two decades of off-grid living and operation in North Wales.

Built from practical experience

Useful, connected systems built from first-hand experience of the problems they solve.

More than two decades of off-grid living have provided direct experience of energy generation, water collection and distribution, communications, food production, heating and resilience. These are everyday operational realities rather than abstract engineering problems.

Greener Systems brings that practical experience together with expertise in software engineering, monitoring and systems integration.

Capabilities

Connecting the physical and digital worlds

Greener Systems brings hardware, software and data together to create practical systems that are clear, dependable and easy to operate.

Monitoring and automation

Dashboards, alerts and control systems for energy, equipment and environmental conditions—including remote sites where power or connectivity may be limited.

Systems integration

Sensors, hardware, software, APIs and external services connected into coherent systems that are useful, understandable and maintainable.

Software and rapid prototyping

Operational problems and promising ideas turned into working web applications, prototypes and data-driven tools—using modern development methods and AI where it adds genuine value.

Off-grid systems in daily use

This North Wales site combines locally generated renewable energy, battery storage, water systems, heating, internet connectivity and environmental sensors.

Information from these separate systems has been brought into a single monitoring setup. It shows how much energy is being generated and used, the condition of essential resources, and how the site responds to weather and changing demand.

Originally developed to support the operation and remote management of the property, it now provides a working example of the monitoring, integration and automation Greener Systems can deliver for other sites and organisations.

Wildfire Watch

Wildfire Watch is a developing platform for bringing together information that can help people understand emerging wildfire risk and activity.

It combines satellite thermal detections, official incident information, weather and local environmental conditions in one accessible view. The aim is to turn scattered sources of data into clearer, more useful situational awareness.

It is both a product in development and an example of the kind of practical, data-led software Greener Systems develops: connecting external information, software and a genuine environmental need.

A living case study

Greener Glamping

Greener Glamping is a small off-grid glamping site in the mountains of North Wales. It is also the real-world environment in which many of the practical systems behind Greener Systems have been developed and tested.

Providing comfortable accommodation away from mains services has meant integrating renewable power, water, heating, communications and monitoring into systems that guests can reliably use all year round without needing to understand the technology behind them.

Using AI to work smarter and faster – not to avoid responsibility

AI-assisted development is used where it can help explore ideas, support coding and testing, investigate unfamiliar technologies and shorten the journey from concept to working prototype.

System design, technical decisions, integration, testing and responsibility for the finished result remain firmly with Greener Systems—and ultimately with Nathan Green as the person delivering the work.

This approach has helped Wildfire Watch progress from an idea to a substantial working platform much faster than conventional development alone would have allowed.

A LIttle about Greener Systems

Greener Systems was founded by Nathan Green, whose background spans business and systems analysis, software engineering, website development, renewable-energy technology, systems installation/maintenance and practical problem-solving.

More than two decades spent developing and operating an off-grid property and glamping business in the Berwyn Mountains have added extensive first-hand experience of renewable power, water, heating, communications and remote monitoring.

Nathan specialises in making complicated, disconnected systems understandable and useful—whether that involves integrating existing equipment, building new monitoring hardware and software, or finding a practical route between the two.

His experience includes contracting, running IT businesses, working within large organisations and advising other businesses.

Outside work, Nathan is usually exploring the North Wales landscape on foot or by mountain bike. Or chopping logs…

The aim is simple: to create practical technology that helps people operate more intelligently, efficiently and sustainably.
